Meet Wylmi Cell, the next lock controller

A Wylmi intercom works with nothing but a QR code and your phone. But if you want to open the door from the app, you need one small piece of hardware: the lock controller. We’ve been working on its next generation, and today we’re sharing the first photo of it.

Say hello to Wylmi Cell

That’s the board above, powered up on our bench. It’s the latest prototype of the controller, and everything it needs sits on one board:

  • A signal relay output with NO / COM / NC terminals. It connects like a simple push button to the request-to-exit input of your existing door system.
  • 4G cellular connectivity (LTE Cat 4) with a nano SIM slot. Drop in a SIM with data and the controller stays online where there’s no Wi-Fi to join. See “SIM and coverage” below.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, for getting it online and for the Bluetooth backup.
  • 12–24 V DC power through a simple jack, with industrial-grade protection, so it runs from a standard wall supply.

SIM and coverage

The controller takes a nano SIM, and any data plan will do: you pick the carrier and the price. Even a small plan is plenty, since the controller only sends tiny messages.

We’re starting with Europe. The cellular side is built for the European networks, with 4G and a 3G/2G fallback, so it works across the EU and EEA, the UK and Switzerland, as well as many other compatible countries. We’ll expand to more regions after that. If you need it somewhere specific, tell us where, as it helps us decide what comes next.

Already in its enclosure

The board lives in a compact housing made for DIN rail or wall mounting, with the power jack and the screw terminal for your door release within easy reach. This is as close as it gets to the final product.

Where we are

We’re nearly there: this prototype is very close to the final product. The hardware is working, the firmware is being finalised, and the infrastructure behind it is nearly ready. We expect it to be available in the coming weeks. We build in the open because we’d rather show you the work in progress than a polished render.

What it’s for

The goal hasn’t changed: make the hardware side of a video intercom small, simple and affordable. Scan the QR code in the box, pair it to your intercom in the app, set up its network, and everyone in your directory can open the door.

We’ll share more as the board matures. Want to be among the first to get one? Say hello at contact@wylmi.com, or read how the lock controller works today.
